We are looking for an assistant maintenance engineer to work along side the current engineer in order to cover the fabric and assistant engineering duties .



- The provision of assistance to Engineering Maintenance and breakdown support

- Provide Fabric repairs and an ad-hoc job Engineering repair service to the hospital

- Support the Engineering Technician and Engineering Assistants in their day to day duties

Ideally this role will be based from a larger site which requires a high degree of "handyman" style tasks but is not limited to this·        

- Undertake the Engineering Planned Preventative Maintenance Routine as detailed in the Standard operating Procedure manuals. The level of undertaking will be based on the competency level established and ongoing internal development will enable the Mobile Engineering Assistant to work towards providing assistance to the Engineering Technician in completion of the PPM routine across the site. Typical duties will be:

o        Filter changing

o        Drive belt changing

o        Greasing and oiling

o        Battery checking

o        Water Tank and Calorifier cleaning

o        Temperature checks and meter readings

o        Basic Fire safety checks

·         Respond to reactive "handyman" calls within Service Level Agreement (SLA)

·         Escalate reactive calls which are out with their scope to Engineering Technician or Senior Eng Technician which may require specialist involvement to resolve

·         Provide a "handyman service to the site which includes but is not limited to:

o        Changing locks and repairing locks on doors

o        Drain and Gutter cleaning

o        Picture framing and hanging

o        Minor Fabric repairs

·         Respond effectively and timely to ad-hoc customer requirements

·         Feed back on findings to enable a continuous improvements of planned Maintenance & Maintenance Techniques working towards a condition based maintenance regime

·         Provide feedback on the Standard Maintenance Manual

·         Ensure completion of Engineering log books

·         Provide assistance in the delivering of the practical element of Fire systems training

·         Provide operational assistance to Project Management when required

·         Carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing) as required for all portable equipment used throughout at intervals defined by both policy and Risk assessment

·         Be available (if deemed competent to do so) to participate in multi site on-call out of hours cover

Qualifications & Experience



·         Current, clean driving License

·         Basic understanding of Engineering Practices preferably in a previous Engineering environment

·         Previous Experience as an Engineering "Mate" or helper

·         Alternatively served a general building time served apprenticeship in a non technical Engineering subject i.e. bricklaying, roofing, joinery, painting and decorating etc

·         Alternatively part qualifications in Engineering training programme or part completed apprenticeship

·         Previous experience in working alongside Contractors

·         Fire safety training desirable

·         Basic understanding of Quality Management, customer satisfaction and the continuous improvement process

·         Basic understanding of Health and Safety guidelines and applicable law

·         Good written / verbal communication and interpersonal skills

·         Display of time management skills, particularly in an environment with multiple, and sometimes conflicting priorities

·         Basic fault finding techniques
