Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer / Project Manager

Located Surrey

We are looking for a Principal ITS Project Manager / Engineer with a strong understanding & background in Highway Agency Network ITS schemes. You will join a strong team of engineers and work as the project sponsor, looking into Technology Updates in regards to the DMRB.

Ideally from an ITS / Communications / Electronics background, this work is at the forefront of design and technology so the ability to devise, develop and engineer new ideas is essential for this role.

You will have significant experience and knowledge of Highway Technology Standards as well as Highway Agency processes and procedures. This role will give you the responsibility for assessing Departures from Standard, so a strong understanding of DMRB and the ability to challenge applications for departures is also essential for this role.


Title: SENIOR HIGHWAY ITS ENGINEER


Purpose:

Project support for a wide range of clients including the Highways Agency, Transport for London, Local Authorities and the Olympic Delivery Authority. 


Job profile:

Join a strong team of staff working on a range of highway technology projects from feasibility studies through to detailed design and implementation

Update technology Standards and review technology Departures from Standard

Prepare technical reports and tender documentation, assist with programming and cost planning/monitoring, and liaise with other specialist disciplines

Develop a good understanding of the wider issues surrounding ITS solutions including business cases, operations, institutional issues and standards

Maintain a working knowledge of current developments in the industry

Devise and develop new highway technology ideas

Build strong relationships with clients based on mutual trust and openness

Manage own workload under minimum supervision

Guide less experienced staff


Qualifications:

Degree or equivalent qualification in an analytical, highway or transport related subject

Having or working towards a professional qualification in a transport related area


Experience

Significant knowledge of highway technology systems standards and their application

Good understanding of Highways Agency processes and procedures

Good understanding of project management concepts

Previous experience in a client focused and delivery focused role

Lateral thinker with strong problem solving skills

Numerate with analytical mind

Flexible, enthusiastic and self-motivated

Able to grasp complex technical concepts

Full driving license
