Due to rapid expansion one of the world's fastest-growing design, engineering and management consultancies has a key vacancy for a Flood Modelling Team Leader within their Basingstoke team. They are seeking to recruit a hydraulic modelling expert to oversee the fluvial and pluvial modelling capability as part of their growing Water sector capability.
Joining the growing Water team your Hydraulic Modelling experience with be put to good use. You will be tasked with the day-to-day management of the Basingstoke team and you will have a remit to expand the team and manage the Flood/Hydraulic Modelling staff and output of two other offices.
My client is a Global Consultancy Group of some 9000 staff worldwide across the UK, America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia who specialise in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions from initial concepts, through planning to full implementation for a range of public and private sector clients.
The water teams specialise in providing high-level advice (including expert witness services) to both private and public sector clients. Hydraulic modelling work forms the technical backbone for this work and therefore the company is looking to develop a holistic strategy to expand the delivery of these services both in the UK and overseas. They provide advice on the implications of climate change and the wider sustainability issues. They advise on the implications of emerging and current policies assisting clients in meeting their obligations such as SWMPs, FRAs and drainage strategies.
The Role:
You will be responsible for
- Developing the current team to ensure that the capability can grow in a sustainable way.
- Day to day management of the team of 5,
- Staff mentoring, succession planning, & team structuring for efficiency and market competitiveness
- Client liaison and business development.
- Ensuring technically robust solutions.
- You will have responsibility for ensuring your team's projects are technically correct, validate that they meet the contractual requirements and are delivered within budget and programme.
- You will be responsible for preparing project fee proposals, bids, budgets, resource levels and QA aspects.
- You will report directly to the Technical Director. Technical:
Your principal technical role will be the day-to-day management of a team, project management, concept studies and design, leading to planning applications or construction drawings. You can expect to be active on a number of projects/client accounts at any given time.
The ability to use the following software packages would be advantageous
1) Tuflow
2) Isis
3) Infoworks
4) FEH
5) Map Info and ARC GIS
Requirements:
You will be preferably be Chartered status (CEng, MICE, or CIWEM) and have extensive experience in both strategic and detailed hydraulic modelling and associated products such as SFRA, and a knowledge of the Development Industry and hydrological analysis would be an advantage.

Skills:
· You will need to have excellent written and spoken communication skills including report writing.
· You will need to be able to communicate effectively technical issues to both clients and regulators as well as with the team.
· You will be aware of current and emerging technical and guidance.
· You will be able to advise on future software and hardware needs.
· Strong management and leadership skills will also be required.
· You will be able to understand and provide a technical review of hydraulic models
· Experience as expert witness at planning enquiries and or litigation cases would be advantageous.
Knowledge:
· You will have an excellent technical background
· You will also have a robust knowledge of the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering both large and small projects.
Behaviour:
· Probably from a private consultancy or the Environment Agency. You will have a proven record in client care/business development and have a number of clients that see you as their principal contact.
You will need to expand the culture of staff develop and training to develop the team
