Hello!
We are small team of amateur filmmakers looking for actors to appear in our short film. We will be shooting in the first two or three weeks of September in various locations around Southampton.

The film is about a young man called Jason who works in a Supermarket and can’t get on with anything because of his chronic lack of motivation. His life goes downhill after the discovery that an idea of his has been stolen and turned into a professional film.

Although it’s a drama we’d like to think of it as a black comedy. The working title is: ‘Keep Yourself Alive’. We’re hoping to make it around 20 minutes in length.

Characters we need to cast:

Claire (19 -25)
This is quite a big role. Claire serves as a love interest for Jason, she is bubbly, friendly and intelligent. Though she is fond of Jason, she doesn’t like him in the same way he likes her.

Deano (19 -25)
A lad-ey, cocky, occasional cannabis dealer. The role involves two scenes; one just talking outside a house and one in a park. (We also need to see Deano when he was 15, if you have a younger brother that would be good for us! But don’t worry if not.)

Pete the Retail Manager (30 -50)
Horribly arrogant stereotype manger. We’ve all worked with them! (and for them!). He is Jason’s antagonistic boss at the supermarket, Jason hates him immensely. We’re currently trying to secure permission to film in a real supermarket.

Old woman in supermarket (70+)
Just a quick role, an old woman who asks Jason for some help whilst Jason is working.

Freddie the Tramp (30 – 45)
A park bench alcoholic, thin, weathered and untidy. He is in the very first scene. He mumbles to himself about how he could have been a kung-fu master, whilst a small group of teenagers look on and laugh. Obviously we will provide make-up and tramp attire for this role.

Claire’s Boyfriend (21 -30)
Just another quick role, this is Claire’s, Jason’s love intrests', proper boyfriend – he’s only in one scene, he’s a tall handsome, ambitious, sporty man. Everything Jason isn’t.

I’m sorry that we can’t offer you any money for this, but as always we’ll cover your travel expenses. Please don’t be under the illusion that this is a professional production. That’s not to say we won’t try our best to make it look as good as we can and you can use your scenes for you portfolio. We will probably be shooting at the weekends to ensure it’s easiest for most people.
