Mechanical Design Engineer - SolidWorks 3D CAD

We are a new company looking to further develop a ground breaking heat engine based energy storage system. An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to work on the ongoing development of the 3rd prototype machine with the potential to join the company in the medium term, assuming the successful outcome of the project. We are currently located in Cambridge but looking to move to Hampshire in the next 6 month so looking for a flexible contractor who can travel when required to understand the product in the workshop and work from home and or office when we have relocated.
This is the ideal role for a highly technical individual with an interest in the design, development and manufacture of precision mechanical components and assemblies. As a strong technical contributor, you will develop and implement designs based on functional specifications as well as creating manufactureable and serviceable designs.
The role involves designing precision machined and fabricated components and creating detailed component and assembly drawings, 3D SolidWorks assembly models and helping to resolve manufacturing issues in the early stages of product design and development.
To be considered for this position you must have:
- Good experience in mechanical design and product development
- Knowledge of SolidWorks (although not essential)
- A good foundation in mechanical engineering disciplines
Outside interests in the design of model engines, boats, planes or similar pastimes would be of interest. Workshop experience at either professional or amateur level, professional design experience and obsessive problem solving skills!
